Singapore Grand Slam Men's Singles Final Four Announced: Lin Shidong Upset & Wang Chuqin Sole Survivor, with Semifinals Schedule

On March 1st Beijing time, the WTT Singapore Grand Slam men's singles quarterfinals concluded. The three participating Chinese national team players achieved a record of 1 win and 2 losses. Among them, Lin Shidong suffered a surprising 2-4 defeat to the renowned French player, the younger Lebrun. Wang Chuqin, in fierce form, swept past the South Korean star Jang Woo-jin 4-0. The Chinese national team's rising star Chen Yuanyu fell 3-4 to Moregard, failing to complete a stunning comeback. Lin Yun-ju comfortably defeated Franziska 4-1. As a result, the tournament's final four are set, with Asia and Europe evenly splitting the spots, each securing two!

Lin Shidong faced the younger Lebrun. Lin has been in poor form recently, with his game seemingly figured out by opponents, leading to frequent losses to non-Chinese players. Entering this tournament as the defending champion, his quarterfinal match was against Lebrun, a frequent nemesis. The first two games were evenly contested, with each player seizing crucial points to level at 1-1. Subsequently, Lin collapsed, quickly losing two consecutive games to fall into a desperate 1-3 deficit. Although he managed to save a match point by winning a tight fifth game to pull back to 2-3, he faltered again in the crucial points of the sixth game, ultimately losing 2-4 in an upset to Lebrun—a truly disheartening defeat!

Wang Chuqin, facing Jang Woo-jin, displayed the dominant prowess expected of the world number one. Unleashing his full firepower and applying relentless pressure, his powerful offense overwhelmed his opponent. The match quickly became one-sided as Wang surged forward, winning four straight games to sweep Jang 4-0, becoming the sole Chinese representative in the semifinals. It can be said that Wang Chuqin is currently the most reliable player for the Chinese national team in men's singles!

Lin Yun-ju took on Franziska, who had previously caused an upset by eliminating Tomokazu Harimoto. Lin Yun-ju seemed to face little challenge, consistently outplaying his opponent in attack from start to finish. He swiftly gained an overwhelming advantage, taking a 3-0 lead to reach match point. He relaxed slightly in the fourth game, allowing Franziska to pull one back. However, in the fifth game, Lin reignited his aggressive play, steadily building a lead to secure a comfortable win, sweeping his opponent 4-1 to advance to the semifinals!

Chen Yuanyu faced the Swedish powerhouse, Moregard. Although the Chinese rising star initially traded blows with his opponent, a lack of experience in key moments cost him the first two games. The third game saw him play too hastily, leading to a rapid collapse and a 0-3 dire situation. Just when a comprehensive defeat seemed imminent, Chen launched a massive counterattack. Surprisingly, he began to dominate, winning three consecutive games decisively to miraculously level the match at 3-3. However, in the deciding game, Moregard erupted, unleashing full power to build a lead and close out the match 11-6, refusing to be upset and edging past Chen Yuanyu 4-3 to reach the semifinals!

Thus, the tournament's final four are confirmed. The semifinal schedule is set: Lin Yun-ju and Moregard will clash first at 1:30 PM, followed by Wang Chuqin versus the younger Lebrun at 2:15 PM. The lineup for the final is eagerly anticipated!
