Real Madrid is confident in Kylian Mbappe's ability to return soon in preparation for the first-leg match against Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16.
According to AS, Real Madrid still hopes that Kylian Mbappe can recover in time to participate in the first-leg match against Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16. The French forward is currently suffering from a knee sprain injury and was initially considered unlikely to play, with an expected recovery period of at least about three weeks.
Currently, Mbappe is in Paris, training intensively with Real Madrid's fitness specialists after undergoing tests to accurately determine the extent of his injury. Although his availability remains uncertain, the French striker understands the importance of the upcoming match against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu and hopes to participate, even if only as a substitute option on the bench.
Previously, there were reports of disagreements between Real Madrid and Mbappe's representatives regarding his potential return for the second leg against Manchester City at the Etihad. However, according to internal sources, no such serious conflict actually exists.
Nevertheless, accelerating the recovery process still carries significant risks. Mbappe was previously rushed back to play in a similar situation during the Spanish Super Cup final in January, so Real Madrid will need to carefully consider before making a final decision.
In the coming days, Mbappe's condition will continue to be closely monitored. The French forward is expected to return to Spain by the end of this week.
Meanwhile, the Royal club is preparing for its upcoming La Liga match against Celta Vigo at Balaidos. Real Madrid recently held a training session at the Valdebebas center, but their squad is significantly depleted.
For this match, Dean Huijsen, Franco Mastantuono, and Alvaro Carreras will be absent due to suspension, while Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, and Dani Ceballos are all recovering from injuries. Additionally, the status of David Alaba and Raul Asencio remains uncertain, although both have participated in team training.
