Naturalized forward Bergson da Silva has expressed his readiness to play for Malaysia if given the opportunity, following his impressive performances for Johor Darul Ta'zim.
The veteran Johor Darul Ta'zim forward, Bergson da Silva, stated he is very excited about the possibility of playing for the Malaysia national football team for the first time, though he remains cautious when discussing his chances of being called up.
Having joined JDT in 2021, the Brazilian striker quickly established himself in the Malaysia Super League. At 35, Bergson is considered one of the best foreign forwards in the league's history, and currently holds the record for the all-time top scorer in the competition with 175 goals in 170 matches.
After completing his naturalization process, Bergson has also come into the sights of Malaysia's head coach, Peter Cklamovski. However, the forward revealed that there have been no official discussions yet regarding a potential national team call-up: "I think it's just my personal wish for now, because as of this moment, no one has spoken to me directly about it, so I'm not certain," Bergson shared.
Nevertheless, the JDT striker affirmed he is ready to contribute if given the chance to represent Malaysia. "I am ready. As I've said, I've gradually learned to love this country and feel it is like my home."
Bergson also admitted that representing Malaysia would be a great honor in his career. "It would be a great joy if I get that opportunity. I thank everyone for the support received and I am always ready to help the national team," the 35-year-old forward emphasized.
Currently, Bergson is one of the foreign players in the Malaysia Super League who could potentially represent the national team in the near future. Besides him, two other names being mentioned are JDT midfielder Manuel Hidalgo and Kuala Lumpur City FC center-back Giancarlo Gallifuoco.
At the club level, Bergson continues to maintain impressive scoring form. He has scored 19 goals in the Malaysia Super League this season and leads the Golden Boot race, holding a two-goal advantage over his closest pursuer, Chrigor Moraes. His consistent performance and extensive experience make Bergson a notable candidate for the Malaysia national team's attack if Coach Cklamovski decides to give him an opportunity soon.
