FAM officially states: 'CAS decision is deeply disappointing'

On the afternoon of March 6th, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) officially commented on the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) dismissal of the appeal regarding the case of seven ineligible naturalized players.

The full text of the statement from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to the media and the public is as follows:

"The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirms it has received the final decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the appeal filed by FAM and the seven players.

FAM's appeal has been dismissed. The players' appeal was partially upheld, resulting in a reduction of their sanctions, but they remain suspended from playing for an additional eight months. The full reasoning for the decision has not yet been published, and any further commentary on the merits of the decision will be provided after the complete details of the ruling have been reviewed.

FAM respects the authority of CAS; however, FAM believes the imposed penalty appears disproportionate, especially when compared to sanctions in similar cases previously adjudicated by CAS. FAM will examine this matter more thoroughly upon receiving the full award.

Throughout this process, FAM has accepted responsibility for the oversight shortcomings. Investigations by Malaysian government authorities and FIFA are ongoing. FAM will continue to cooperate fully with all relevant authorities.

This decision is very disappointing, particularly for the players. They were not involved in the administrative process and were completely unaware of the administrative issues. The players are all Malaysian citizens, granted citizenship in accordance with Malaysian law.

FAM would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support during this difficult period. The national team remains focused on its objectives and will continue to strive wholeheartedly for the advancement of Malaysian football."
