AFC announces a significant decision for the Vietnamese national team at the Asian Cup.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has appointed an Australian refereeing team to oversee the match between the Vietnamese women's national team and Taiwan in the second round of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup group stage.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the refereeing team for the match between the Vietnamese women's national team and Taiwan in the second round of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup group stage.This match will take place at 12:00 on March 7th, and the entire refereeing team selected is from Australia, with the head referee being Ms. Lara Christie Lee.

Lara Christie Lee is one of the most experienced female referees in Asian football. Born in 1987, she began her refereeing career in domestic Australian competitions, particularly the national women's league. Through consistent performance and professional expertise, Lee gradually established her position within the regional refereeing system.

2019 marked a significant milestone when Lara Christie Lee officially became a FIFA referee. From then on, she began officiating numerous international matches under the AFC and FIFA systems, thereby accumulating experience at major tournaments in women's world football.

At the continental level, Lara Lee was assigned duties by AFC at the 2022 Women's Asian Cup. At this tournament, the Australian female referee officiated three matches, most notably the semifinal between China and Japan. This was considered one of the most technically demanding matches of the tournament, featuring two top Asian teams.

Lara Christie Lee has officiated many major matches for AFC and FIFA.

Not only active in Asian competitions, Lara Lee has also participated in numerous FIFA tournaments. In 2022, she was selected as a referee for the U20 Women's World Cup held in Costa Rica and officiated group stage matches. Also in that year, Lee served as part of the video assistant referee (VAR) team at the U17 Women's World Cup, continuing to gain experience at the world level.

Supporting Lara Lee in the match between the Vietnamese women's national team and Taiwan are two Australian assistant referees, Emma Kocbek and Madelaine Ruth Allum. The fourth official is Casey Reibelt, while Ms. Katherine Margaret Jacewicz serves as the VAR. Notably, all referees in this team have never officiated matches involving Vietnamese football.
