The match unfolded with a balanced situation from the start. Vietnam entered with determination and continuously applied pressure, while Chinese Taipei proved dangerous in quick counterattacks.

In the 25th minute, a turning point occurred. From a combination on the left flank, Matsunaga delivered a shot that hit the crossbar. Su Yu Hsuan quickly rushed in to head accurately, opening the score for the Taiwanese team.

After conceding, Vietnam pushed higher to seek an equalizer. Coach Mai Duc Chung's players created several opportunities, notably attempts by Tran Thi Duyen, Hai Linh, and Ngoc Minh Chuyen, but lacked precision in the final moments.

In the second half, Huynh Nhu was introduced to boost the attack. However, against Chinese Taipei's disciplined and fierce defense, Vietnam's chances regrettably passed. In the final minutes, Ngoc Minh Chuyen had a dangerous shot but it missed the goal. Ultimately, Vietnam Chinese Taipei secured a 1-0 victory.

Immediately after the match, Taiwanese social media flooded with celebratory comments. Many fans considered this an important victory against a strong Southeast Asian opponent.

Below are some notable comments from Taiwanese fans:

One fan commented: “We did it! Defeating Vietnam was not easy. Today's defense was excellent.”

Another fan said: “Su Yu Hsuan is truly the hero. The whole team fought like warriors.”

Meanwhile, one account wrote: “This is a major victory for Taiwanese women's football. Hope the team can advance further in the tournament.”

Group stage situation and Vietnam's chances

Before facing Taiwan, Vietnam started favorably by defeating India and temporarily ranked second in Group C, behind Japan in goal difference.

In theory, Vietnam could opt to draw with Taiwan to aim for third place in the group and secure a quarter-final spot as one of the best third-placed teams. Then, if losing in the quarter-finals, the team might enter a more favorable play-off bracket against opponents like Philippines, Iran, Uzbekistan, or Bangladesh.

However, if finishing second in the group, Vietnam likely faces strong opponents like China or North Korea in the quarter-finals. Then, the play-off bracket becomes tougher against top continental teams like Australia or South Korea.

Nevertheless, with only two matches played in the group, all scenarios remain open. With just three points, Vietnam cannot risk calculations and must aim for the best results in remaining matches to keep hope alive.
