Viettel's foreign player declares championship goal for V.League.

Lucao scored the sole goal enabling Viettel to overcome Hai Phong, and confirmed his resolve to join the army-backed club in contending for the V.League title against CAHN.

The narrow victory over Hai Phong in round 16 of V.League 2025/26 not only helped Viettel maintain its position among the leading group but also boosted motivation for the championship race. The hero of the match was forward Lucas Vinicius Gonçalves Silva (Lucao) with the only goal, and he reaffirmed his commitment to compete for the crown with CAHN alongside the military team.

In the latest match of round 16, Viettel overcame Hai Phong with a 1-0 score at home. The only goal was scored by Lucao – the Brazilian foreign player who is having an impressive performance this season. That goal not only brought crucial 3 points but also helped the army team continue chasing the top-ranked CAHN in the championship race.

Notably, the goal against Hai Phong carried much emotion for Lucao as he had a long period attached to the Port city club. Sharing after the match, the Brazilian forward said: "Today I scored a goal against Hai Phong. It was a special goal. I played for Hai Phong for 3 years, I have friends I dearly love and the coach too. But now I have a new home. And I am very happy to have scored for Viettel."

This victory helps Viettel continue holding championship hopes, though they are 4 points behind top-ranked CAHN and have played one more match. Nevertheless, Lucao affirmed the whole team will still fight hard in the remainder of the season. He stated: "We will strive in each match. Every opportunity in the matches is precious and I will try to bring the best chance for Viettel in this year's championship race."

In reality, Lucao is playing a very crucial role in Viettel's gameplay for the 2025/26 season. The forward born in 1991 has scored 9 goals and added 3 assists, becoming the main attacking spearhead of the army team. The stable form of the Brazilian striker contributes to Viettel having a streak of 4 consecutive wins in V.League.

Not hiding big ambition for this season, Lucao continues setting high goals with the team. He shared: "My goal this season is to help Viettel win the championship. I will try to score in every match". After round 16, Viettel is ranked second on the table with 34 points and will continue playing in the National Cup quarter-finals, meeting the First Division team Bac Ninh on the evening of March 21.
