Coach Luis Enrique is reportedly being targeted by Chelsea, despite the London club recently appointing Liam Rosenior.
According to sources from Indykaila News, Chelsea, the club that has twice won the Champions League (2012 and 2021), is now facing serious concerns regarding manager Liam Rosenior. This source, which claims to have a team of five journalists specializing in European football coverage, states that a key club official working in the US is reportedly aiming for Luis Enrique as a potential replacement option.
This information emerges as Rosenior's position at Chelsea begins to become unstable following a series of unfavorable results. The 41-year-old manager was appointed earlier this year after leaving Strasbourg, a club also owned by the BlueCo group, to replace Enzo Maresca. However, this decision faced skepticism from the outset due to his relatively limited managerial experience.
In reality, Rosenior had a relatively stable start, helping Chelsea win 10 out of 17 matches across all competitions. Nevertheless, the London club just experienced a disappointing week, increasing the pressure on the English manager.
In the Champions League, Chelsea suffered a heavy 2-5 defeat to PSG in the first leg of the round of 16 after conceding three goals in the final minutes. Furthermore, The Blues continued to disappoint by losing 0-1 to Newcastle at home in the latest Premier League round.
In the domestic league, Chelsea currently ranks sixth on the table after being overtaken by Liverpool following their draw with Tottenham. Meanwhile, they have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and face the risk of an early exit from the Champions League.
Despite still having a chance to compete for the FA Cup title, pressure on Rosenior continues to mount daily. In this context, the possibility of Chelsea seeking a new manager is increasingly becoming a hot topic, especially as Luis Enrique's name is mentioned as a notable option if the Stamford Bridge club decides to make a change in the coaching position.
Meanwhile, Enrique still has one year left on his contract with PSG until summer 2027. The Spanish strategist is also reportedly targeted by Manchester United, currently led by interim manager Michael Carrick. However, multiple sources suggest that Enrique is considering extending his contract with PSG, after bringing consecutive success to the club in recent years.
