Manchester United is planning a major squad restructuring during the summer 2026 transfer window, with the goalkeeper position becoming the focal point as up to four names face the possibility of departing Old Trafford.
The most notable case is that of Andre Onana. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is currently playing on loan at Trabzonspor and will return to MU in July. However, his future at the club remains highly uncertain.
According to internal sources, MU's leadership will hold discussions before the season concludes to make a final decision regarding Onana. The 29-year-old goalkeeper's contract runs until 2028, but if they wish to sell him, the Old Trafford club needs to recoup at least £18.88 million to avoid breaching Premier League financial regulations.
Alongside Onana, backup goalkeeper Altay Bayındır is also likely to be offloaded after a series of six early-season matches marred by errors. The Turkish national team goalkeeper, who joined from Fenerbahçe in 2023, is currently attracting interest from Besiktas.

Senne Lammens is confirmed as the primary choice for MU's goalkeeper position.
Meanwhile, new signing Senne Lammens has quickly secured the starting spot and is established as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. MU's management is now seeking a suitable backup goalkeeper option to support the 23-year-old shot-stopper.
On the other hand, the future of veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton remains undecided. The player will turn 40 next month and is weighing between extending his contract for another season or retiring.
The decisive moves in the goalkeeper position indicate that MU is aiming for a comprehensive squad overhaul, intended to rebuild the team and improve performance. On the Premier League 2025-26 standings, MU currently ranks 3rd with 54 points, trailing leaders Arsenal by 6 points but having played one fewer match.
