Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc replaces Mr. Mai Đức Chung to lead the Vietnamese women's national team.

Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc will succeed Mr. Mai Đức Chung in leading the Vietnamese women's football team. The contract signing ceremony is planned for April 17.

After the conclusion of the 2026 Asian Cup, Coach Mai Đức Chung's contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) ended, and he expressed his desire to step down.

Without much deliberation, VFF decided to appoint Mr. Hoàng Văn Phúc as the replacement, guiding the Vietnamese women's football team until the end of the 34th SEA Games hosted in Malaysia in 2027.

Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc is not an unfamiliar name in Vietnamese football. He has previously coached the national team, the U23 Vietnam squad, and notably made an impact by leading Quảng Nam Club to win the V-League 1 championship in 2017.

According to the latest FIFA rankings, the Vietnamese women's football team has dropped one spot, falling to 37th in the world but still maintains its position within the top six in Asia.

The task for the new coach Hoàng Văn Phúc upon accepting the role to lead the Vietnamese women's football team is relatively challenging.

This is because the team is undergoing a transition phase. Veteran players such as Huỳnh Như, Hải Yến, Thái Thị Thảo... no longer maintain peak physical condition or top performance.

Meanwhile, the next generation of players like Thúy Hằng, Trúc Hương, Hải Linh, Vũ Thị Hoa, Ngọc Minh Chuyên... require more time to mature and become capable of carrying the responsibilities left by their senior counterparts.

The immediate urgent task for Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc is to focus on consolidating and stabilizing the team's personnel, preparing for important objectives in the near future.
