With Chengdu defeating Wuhan Three Towns 1-0, the dark horse Chongqing blanking Shenzhen 2-0, and Shanghai Port drawing 1-1 with Shandong Taishan, the latest CSL standings have been released.

On April 17 Beijing time, the sixth round of the Chinese Super League kicked off, with six matches concluding first. Among them, Qingdao Hainiu drew 0-0 with Qingdao West Coast; Shandong Taishan surprisingly tied 1-1 with a severely depleted Shanghai Port squad; newly-promoted Chongqing marched forward with a 2-0 shutout of Shenzhen; Zhejiang drew 0-0 with traditional powerhouse Beijing Guoan; Chengdu defeated Wuhan Three Towns 1-0; and Yunnan suffered a 3-0 defeat to bottom-placed Tianjin. Consequently, the updated league standings have been refreshed: Chengdu and Chongqing, both unbeaten, lead the table occupying the top two spots; Yunnan sits third; Shandong Taishan is eighth; and Tianjin remains at the bottom.

Shandong Taishan faced Shanghai Port. As two powerhouse teams, this match was destined to attract intense attention. Shanghai Port, plagued by injuries and missing players, had to rely on just one foreign player against Taishan’s five foreigners. In the first half, the two sides were evenly matched, each having one shot on target. However, Taishan’s early push failed as Xie Weneng’s goal was disallowed. Shanghai Port launched a sharp counterattack in the 37th minute: Li Shuai sprinted into the penalty area with the ball and swept a cross to the back post, where Yang Xi capitalized to score, giving Port the lead. In the second half, Taishan made substitutions first, gradually controlling the game and increasing attacking pressure. Port’s goal area was repeatedly threatened. In the 72nd minute, Taishan created danger from a set-piece: after the ball was lofted into the box, Cresan precisely headed it home to equalize. Ultimately, the match ended with Port taking one point away from home, drawing 1-1 with Shandong Taishan.

Wuhan Three Towns versus Chengdu. Chengdu, the league leader, has maintained a stable unbeaten record this season. This round they faced Three Towns away, aiming for a third consecutive win. Though Three Towns were expected to be a soft opponent, they performed excellently, even dominating Chengdu on the field. However, their finishing quality was lacking, failing to breach Chengdu’s defense. Chengdu relied on Wellington’s penalty goal to secure a 1-0 victory over Three Towns, remaining unbeaten after six rounds and staying atop the standings ahead of Chongqing.

Chongqing versus Shenzhen. Chongqing, as a newly-promoted team this season, has delivered remarkably impressive results, still maintaining an unbeaten record and holding second place on the table. This round they aimed to win against Shenzhen. In the first half, Benković received a red card, leaving Shenzhen to play with ten men. In the second half, Chongqing took control, launching fierce attacks against Shenzhen. Chen Chunxin and Xiang Yuwang scored two consecutive goals, sealing a 2-0 shutout. Unbeaten after six rounds, they solidify their second-place position—it must be said this Chongqing team has become a super dark horse.

Yunnan versus Tianjin. Tianjin, penalized 10 points at the start of the new season, had struggled to secure a win after five rounds, sitting bottom with heavy relegation pressure. This round against Yunnan, they were not favored. The result was unexpected: Tianjin played strongly, showing high motivation to win. Coupled with Gileas’ outstanding performance—scoring twice and providing an assist, single-handedly creating three goals—they swept Yunnan (who played with ten men) 3-0, confidently claiming their first victory of the season.
