The regulations for the men's football event at the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled from September 15 to October 3, allow teams to add up to three players over 23 years old, similar to how Coach Park Hang Seo previously called upon Van Quyet, Anh Duc, and Hung Dung in the 2018 Asian Games.
It is expected that some key players from the U23 Vietnam squad for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup will also join the Vietnam national team for the AFF Cup.
The remaining players along with U21 players will form the team participating in the Asian Games in Japan, preparing for the 34th SEA Games.
In September, the Vietnam national team will participate in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, scheduled from September 21 to October 6.
Coach Kim Sang Sik will delegate the leadership of the U23 Vietnam team to assistant coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
Conditions for Vietnam U17 to Reach the Southeast Asian Championship Semifinals
After two wins against Malaysia U17 4-0 and Timor Leste U17 10-0, Vietnam U17 temporarily leads Group A with 6 points and a goal difference of 14/0.

The goal difference gives Vietnam U17 an advantage in competing for the top group position or comparing goal differences with other group runners-up.
Vietnam U17 only needs a draw against Indonesia in the final match to secure the top spot in Group A. Even if they lose by a narrow margin, they still hold a chance to advance. A possible scenario is Vietnam losing to Indonesia while Malaysia wins against Timor Leste.
In that case, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia would all have 6 points. Considering the head-to-head results among these three teams, they would be tied, but Vietnam U17 currently has a better goal difference within this group thanks to their decisive 4-0 victory over Malaysia.
If Vietnam U17 loses to Indonesia U17 while Malaysia U17 does not win against Timor Leste U17, Indonesia U17 would top the group due to direct head-to-head victory, and Vietnam U17 would be the group runner-up.
