The World Snooker Championship kicks off today! Prize money of £500,000, 11 Chinese players competing, top 16 group photo released.

On April 18 Beijing time, the first round of the main event of the World Snooker Championship begins today. As the most prestigious snooker tournament, it attracts significant attention. The Chinese contingent has also sent a strong lineup, with 11 players securing main event spots, setting a new historical record. They will compete for the championship and the £500,000 prize. The group photo of the top 16 players before the tournament has been released, let's take a look!

Everyone knows the World Championship is one of snooker's three major tournaments and the final major event of the year. The first round employs a long-format system; winning requires absolute skill, along with excellent form and mental resilience. Only 32 players compete in the main event: 16 seeded players qualify directly, plus 16 who emerge from the qualifiers. The champion's prize is substantial, totaling £500,000. The defending champion is Chinese star Zhao Xintong, who is also the first Chinese player to win the World Championship, fulfilling the dreams of countless Chinese fans!

This World Championship sees the Chinese contingent again setting a new record for main event participants. Five seeded players qualify directly: Zhao Xintong, Wu Yize, Xiao Guodong, Si Jiahui, and Ding Junhui. Additionally, six players advanced through the qualifiers: Zhou Yuelong, Zhang Anda, Fan Zhengyi, Lei Peifan, Pang Junxu, and He Guoqiang. These 11 players represent a mix of veterans, mid-career, and young talents, indicating Chinese snooker is rapidly flourishing!

As per tradition, a group photo of the seeded players was taken before the tournament. The "75 Twins" and the "80 Four Tigers" are prominently featured, while top players from the 90s generation, Karen Wilson and Zhao Xintong, occupy the center positions. All five Chinese players are included. However, two of the top 16 are absent: the greatest player in history, Ronnie O'Sullivan, and the world number one "Precision God" Judd Trump, which is somewhat regrettable. It seems gathering all top 16 players for a photo has always been difficult!

The tournament starts tonight at 17:00, with defending Chinese player Zhao Xintong playing the opening match. Zhao Xintong is the top favorite to win. His first-round opponent is Hayfield, whose skill level is not strong. If Zhao performs normally, he is expected to defeat his opponent. Hopefully he can secure an opening victory. Let's wait and see, go for it!
