Vietnam women's national team ranks 37th globally, coach Hoang Van Phuc receives positive news

According to the latest ranking released by FIFA on April 21, the Vietnam women's national team is placed 37th worldwide with 1,593.71 points. This ranking is calculated based on performance during the period of participating in SEA Games 33 (December 14, 2025) and the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup finals held in March 2026.

In Asia, the Vietnam women's national team stands at 6th place, following Japan (rank 5), North Korea (11), Australia (15), China (16), and South Korea (19), while ranking above Philippines (39), Chinese Taipei (40), and Thailand (50).

Within Southeast Asia, despite dropping one position on the FIFA ranking, the Vietnam women's national team maintains its leading position. Next are Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, and Timor Leste.

On the global scale, Spain and the United States continue to hold the top two positions on the ranking list, England rises to 3rd place, Germany falls to 4th, while Japan climbs to 5th. The subsequent positions in the top 10 are occupied by Brazil, France, Sweden, Canada, and the Netherlands.

The ranking system for women's national teams also applies a real-time update mechanism similar to the men's team rankings. Consequently, teams' positions can change immediately as matches are ongoing. The official ranking will be confirmed after all matches within the FIFA Days/FIFA Series period conclude.

The next ranking period is scheduled to be updated by FIFA on June 16, 2026.

On April 17, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a contract signing ceremony and announced the head coach of the Vietnam women's national team, Mr. Hoang Van Phuc.

Both parties reached an agreement for Mr. Hoang Van Phuc to assume the head coach position from May 01, 2026 until the conclusion of SEA Games 34.

The primary task for the new head coach Hoang Van Phuc is to focus on team development, preparing optimally for the Vietnam women's football team's participation in the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 20), scheduled in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, followed by SEA Games 34 hosted in Malaysia.
