Two-time World Cup-winning coach declines Real Madrid offer

Real Madrid encounters a significant obstacle in their quest for a new manager, with a prospective candidate said to have declined the chance to coach the Bernabeu squad.

According to L’Equipe, Didier Deschamps will not accept the Real Madrid managerial position, as his representatives have ruled out a move to Bernabeu. This is considered a heavy blow to the Royal club's plans for finding a new head coach.

Previously, the French strategist was seen as an ideal choice due to his experience working with stars and managing big personalities. He also has good relationships with several current Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappe. However, this option is now off the table.

Didier Deschamps is one of the rare coaches with a top-tier career both as a player and a manager. After retiring, he began his coaching career at Monaco and quickly impressed by leading the team to the Champions League final in 2004.

The manager born in 1968 continued to achieve success with Juventus and Marseille before taking over the French national team in 2012. His career peak came in 2018 when he helped France win the World Cup, becoming one of the few in history to win the tournament both as a player (1998) and a coach. Additionally, he led Les Bleus to the Euro 2016 final and the 2022 World Cup.

Not only that, the situation becomes more complicated as Jurgen Klopp, one of the top candidates, is also not ready to return to coaching. This further narrows the options for Los Blancos.

Mauricio Pochettino remains under consideration, but this deal is not easy as he currently coaches the US national team. Meanwhile, Lionel Scaloni has emerged as a potential option, with a contract extending until after the 2026 World Cup.

Regarding Real Madrid internally, Alvaro Arbeloa's future is also uncertain. The Spanish strategist, who took over the team in January, is likely to end the season without any titles. After being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich, the possibility of him continuing to lead the team next season is almost nonexistent.

As numerous targets fall away, Real Madrid's search for a new manager is becoming increasingly difficult, and clearly the Royal club has just faced a major setback.
