After scoring to help Ho Chi Minh City Police defeat Hong Linh Ha Tinh 1-0, Lee Williams shared about the team's performance and affirmed he learned a lot from Nguyen Tien Linh.
In the match held on the evening of April 26th, Williams Lee was the hero for the away team by scoring the only goal with a precise header from a cross into the penalty area. Utilizing his height advantage and good positional sense, the striker of British-Vietnamese descent seized the opportunity to secure 3 valuable points for Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, thereby helping the team end a streak of 3 consecutive losses.
Speaking after the match, Lee Williams could not hide his satisfaction but also frankly acknowledged the team's difficult period prior: "Of course, the recent results of HCMC Police were unacceptable. But as a collective, from the coaching staff to all the players, we truly gave our utmost effort and worked very hard in training. And I think everyone can see that today we regained our fighting spirit, and it's great that the whole team secured all 3 points."
This victory almost guarantees a relegation-safe spot for HCMC Police Club as they create a gap of up to 16 points from the bottom-ranked PVF-CAND team. However, the young striker affirmed the whole team still cannot be satisfied: “Everyone. Anyone present on the field could see how well we coordinated. But recently we simply haven't been able to score. Nevertheless, the entire forward line is still working very hard and training together to bring that into the matches."
Not only impressive with his goal, Lee Williams also showed his ambition in adapting to the new environment. He shared about having to play in various positions in the forward line: "The recent period has been truly difficult for me playing in different positions. I had to adapt to various roles in the attack, but wherever I'm placed, I'm always ready to give 100%. And as long as I play to my full ability, that will definitely help the team."
Particularly, this young player emphasized Tien Linh's role in his own development: "Tien Linh is one of the top forwards in Vietnamese football and I'm trying to learn from him every day. When playing as a winger, I also had to adjust my playing style to coordinate best with him."
Before deciding to return to Vietnam for a trial at a V.League club, the British-Vietnamese striker Lee Williams consulted with star Harry Kane and received support, thus choosing the path of returning home to play. Additionally, Lee Williams also sought advice from Robbie Fowler, his former coach who had played football in Southeast Asia for Muangthong United. The practical experiences from the former English star are considered an important reference helping Williams feel more confident when starting his journey in Vietnam.
