Reported by journalist Wang Wei As an economic powerhouse with GDP ranking first nationally for 37 consecutive years, Guangdong's robust economic strength provides fertile ground for the Guangdong Super League. The Guangdong Super League, adhering to the service principle of "full participation, multiple benefits" and an innovative event economy model, converts sports traffic into consumption increments, driving local economic growth.

In recent years, city football leagues across various provinces and cities in China have flourished, with leagues like Su Super (苏超), Xiang Super (湘超), Gan Super (赣超), Wu Yue Cup (吴越杯), Min Super (闽超), and Northeast Super (东北超) emerging successively. Ensuring a high-quality debut for this year's inaugural Guangdong Super League required meticulous planning by the organizers.
This year, the Su Super League commenced before the Guangdong Super League. The Guangdong Super League organizing committee dispatched personnel specifically to Jiangsu for investigation and research, gaining firsthand understanding of the Su Super's preparation and execution. However, Guangdong and Jiangsu have different provincial conditions, and their football heritage and foundations also differ. Therefore, besides learning from excellent examples elsewhere, the inaugural Guangdong Super League needed to tailor its event based on its own characteristics.

Other provincial city football leagues allow current or retired professional athletes to participate, but the Guangdong Super League is different. "This is a province-wide pure grassroots amateur football celebration," said Xie Changjing, Chairman of the Guangdong Football Association, to the reporter. "This is a major highlight of the Guangdong Super League. The 21 city teams across the province have 826 registered players, none of whom have registration records as professional players with the Chinese Football Association. They are ordinary football enthusiasts from various professions, united by their shared love for football, and will strive for the honor of their hometowns, truly embodying the concept of 'coming for the city, fighting for the city.'"
Looking at the composition of players from Guangdong's 21 city teams, these pure grassroots players include university students and school teachers, as well as programmers, auxiliary police officers, firefighters, restaurant owners, auto repair shop masters, company employees, etc. They are outstanding figures in amateur football, carrying the expectations of their communities and the glory of their cities.
More local players mean stronger sense of belonging. All Guangdong Super League participants undergo strict verification, requiring local residency, social security, or student registration, ensuring 100% eligibility to represent their locality.

Jiangmen team head coach Huang Zihao, who led the team in the opening match, served as a coach for Guangzhou United Team from 2024 to 2025, winning the 2024 Guangzhou City Football League championship, and later participated in the 2025 China Champions League as an assistant coach for Guangzhou United. After the opening match, when asked about the differences between the Guangdong Super League and professional or elite football, he expressed candidly: "Professional football, frankly, players fight for待遇 and to提升 their market value. What we are doing now is更多 for fighting for our hometown. This is a信仰, a桑梓情怀. From a内心深处 perspective, it's completely different; spiritual aspects超越 material aspects,更有内涵!"
In Huang Zihao's view, this year's inaugural Guangdong Super League is an upgraded version of national city super leagues. "Why do I say this? Because I truly feel the Guangdong Super League has ignited全民足球的热情; it is truly全民节日."
Lei Jianjun, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Sports City League Organizing Committee and副厅级干部 of the Guangdong Sports Bureau, gave an example to the reporter: "The regular赛 ticket price for this Guangdong Super League is仅8.8元. This惠民票价 is our核心举措 to implement 'football回归大众,服务市民,' aiming to降低观赛门槛, allowing more市民群众 to走进赛场,感受足球热情."

During the opening match on April 25, the reporter interviewed several现场观众. They each had a大礼包赠送 by the Guangzhou赛区. Each大礼包 contained not only a球迷服 worth超过50元, but also Likoufu点心, Wanglaoji润喉糖, various商品优惠券, and Guangzhou旅游地图. "The value of the大礼包 definitely远超8.8元的门票.感谢赛事组织者给我们的福利," said one观众.
Besides the大礼包, there was also a抽奖环节 during中场休息 to答谢广大球迷 for supporting the Guangdong Super League. During the opening match, many现场球迷抽到了高档耳机 provided by冠名赞助商冠旭电子.
How to make the Guangdong Super League more distinctive,使之成为城市联赛的升级版?深圳足球名宿袁琳 shared his thoughts: "In the future, Hong Kong and澳门 could be included, giving the Guangdong Super League a大湾区或者泛大湾区 concept, which would扩大影响力."
"独乐乐不如众乐乐!" Currently, the Guangdong Super League is构建起一个 "全民参与,多方受益"的大众欢乐舞台, with the升级版城超已具雏形.

Lei Jianjun previously served as副部长 of the市场开发部 for the十五运会和残特奥会广东省执委会. This year, he担起了重任 as Deputy Director of the Guangdong Sports City League Organizing Committee and组长 of the市场开发组.

Lei Jianjun told the reporter that截至目前,仅地市层面就有大大小小80多家企业参与赞助粤超. For example,广汽领程 has冠名粤超广州赛区和梅州赛区, and sponsorship for深圳队 by a深圳高科技企业 is即将官宣.
The Guangdong Super League
