Following a trial period that did not succeed, Vietnamese-French midfielder Rahni Moreau Nguyễn has gone back to France to compete.
Vietnamese football has long sought a central midfielder of sufficient caliber to dominate the midfield area, combining strength in duels with composure in controlling match tempo. Amid this context, the name Rahni Moreau Nguyễn – a player of Vietnamese and French heritage – unexpectedly garnered significant attention when news emerged of his return to Vietnam for a trial with Thể Công Viettel.
This midfielder, born in 2007, was once regarded as one of France's promising young talents due to his systematic training foundation and modern playing style. Rahni developed within the training system of Girondins de Bordeaux, one of French football's most traditional academies. His search for opportunities in V.League led many fans to anticipate a fresh breeze for Vietnam's midfield line.
According to recent updates, Rahni underwent training and a trial period with Thể Công Viettel Club. This was considered a crucial step for him to adapt to the domestic football environment and seek a professional contract opportunity. However, after the period of technical assessment, this young midfielder decided to return to France to continue playing for his former club, Girondins de Bordeaux B.
Currently, Bordeaux B competes in the Nouvelle Aquitaine Régional 1 league, a lower-tier division in French football. Although no longer in the top-tier system as before, this remains a suitable environment for Rahni to continue developing his skills, accumulate more match experience, and await greater opportunities in the future. For a young player just 18 years old, regular playing time remains the most crucial factor.
Possessing a height of approximately 1.80m, Rahni has significant physical advantages with his long stride and wide-ranging activity. He excels in ball recovery situations, escaping pressing, and maintaining tactical structure for the entire team. Rahni's playing style leans toward efficiency, simplicity yet rich in organization, fitting the modern central midfielder profile many clubs are searching for.
In the 2024/25 season, Rahni was promoted to play for Bordeaux B in National 3, marking a notable step forward in his career. Former French national team player Rio Mavuba also praised this young midfielder for his mature tactical thinking and calmness in ball handling. Although unable to commit to Thể Công Viettel, Rahni Moreau Nguyễn remains a name Vietnamese football should closely follow in the coming years.
