In the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship, the Vietnam U19 team is placed in Group A alongside hosts Indonesia, Myanmar, and Timor Leste. Meanwhile, Group B consists of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei; Group C includes Australia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Since Laos did not participate and Group C has only three teams, this significantly impacts the race for semifinal berths in the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship. Specifically, only three group winners and one best second-placed team will advance to the semifinals. Due to the unequal number of teams, when comparing the performances of the second-placed teams, the second-placed teams in Groups A and B will not have their results against the bottom team of their group counted.

In the first two matchdays, Vietnam U19 impressively defeated Timor Leste 3-0 and Myanmar 5-0. A draw against Indonesia in the final group match would have guaranteed Vietnam U19 a spot in the semifinals. However, losing 1-2 severely damaged their chances of advancing.

Although they currently top the rankings of second-placed teams in the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship, Vietnam U19 has played one more match. If both matches—Thailand U19 vs. Malaysia U19 and Cambodia U19 vs. Australia U19—end in draws, Vietnam U19 will definitely be eliminated. In that case, the second-placed team from Group C or B would have at least 4 points, while Vietnam U19 only has 3 points.
