A number of Thai supporters have shared their forecasts for the "Group B decider" between U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia (20:00 on June 8), a contest that will determine the top spot and also impact U19 Vietnam's path to the semifinals.
After a 1-2 defeat against host Indonesia in the final match of Group A, U19 Vietnam concluded the group stage in second place and must now wait for results from other groups. According to tournament rules, only three group winners and the best second-placed team advance to the semifinals.
Currently, U19 Vietnam has 3 points with a goal difference of +4 when considering second-placed teams. However, their chances of progressing under coach Yutaka Ikeuchi could be seriously threatened if the match between U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia ends in a draw.
Before kickoff, many Thai fans have offered various predictions about the outcome of this encounter, regarded as the "Group B final."
One fan commented: "I think Thailand will win 2-0. We have a better attack and are strong enough to top the group."
Another opinion was more cautious: "Malaysia is not easy to beat. I predict a 1-1 draw and both teams advance together."
Meanwhile, a fan from the Land of Smiles said: "If it's a draw, both Thailand and Malaysia benefit. This result would also make Vietnam's situation very difficult."
Another supporter predicted: "Thailand will win 3-1. We have shown a higher level in the first two matches and need to assert our status as championship contenders."
There was also a contrasting view: "Malaysia could well spring a surprise with a 2-1 victory. They haven't fully shown their strength in the group stage."
Notably, a draw would be the scenario that worries Vietnamese fans the most. In that case, U19 Malaysia would have 7 points and almost certainly surpass U19 Vietnam in the race for the best second-placed spot.
Therefore, in addition to the battle for the top of Group B, the match between U19 Thailand and U19 Malaysia is also seen as having a major impact on U19 Vietnam's fate. Vietnamese football fans can only wait and hope that one of the two teams wins to keep alive the chances for coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's squad.
