MU officially breaks a 24-year-long tradition.

Manchester United is gearing up for a season expected to be extremely challenging under Michael Carrick's leadership. Significantly, the club has taken a step never seen in more than twenty years to fuel their trophy-winning aspirations.

Manager Michael Carrick's team recently concluded the season with a third-place finish in the Premier League and is now aiming to compete for the championship in the upcoming season.

The "Red Devils" have shown clear progress under the guidance of the former English midfielder, securing a return to the UEFA Champions League. However, the Old Trafford side understands they will face more challenges as they compete on multiple fronts in the new season.

Manchester United is preparing for a crucial summer transfer window, with upgrading the midfield being the top priority. The club is reportedly set to sign at least two midfielders, while also considering adding a left winger, a defender, and a goalkeeper for the first team.

In addition, Carrick understands that the pre-season period will play a vital role in their trophy ambitions. This is the time for the team to refine tactics and improve fitness ahead of a season expected to be very demanding.

Manchester United recently announced all six pre-season friendlies for 2026, marking a significant shift in their preparation approach.

Except for the COVID-19-affected years of 2020 and 2021, the Old Trafford side had played outside Europe every summer since 2002, mainly in the USA or Asia. However, this plan has changed this year as MU decided to forgo profitable commercial tours to concentrate on playing in Europe.

One of the main reasons is the 2026 World Cup. Not only will they lose several key players during the early pre-season due to international duty, but MU also finds it difficult to attract fan attention in North America while the World Cup is ongoing. Instead, the team will mainly train at Carrington and take shorter trips to play friendlies in Europe.
