With 14 goals and 12 assists, Rashford failed to convince Barcelona to pay €30 million for his permanent transfer, so he will return to Manchester United.

Rashford is a product of Manchester United's youth system, often called the club's crown prince. Last summer, after Amorim excluded him from the squad, he moved to Barcelona on loan. The English left winger managed 14 goals and 12 assists in 49 games last season—a near-double-double performance. Yet this didn't prompt Barcelona to pay €30 million to sign him permanently, even though his market value is €40 million. As soon as the previous season ended, Barcelona immediately spent over €80 million in total to bring in another English left winger, Gordon. Interestingly, both players made England's World Cup squad, but in Tuchel's order of preference, Rashford is actually ahead of Gordon.

According to Spanish media outlet *Marca*, Barcelona will not trigger the buy option for Rashford, meaning the English striker will head back to Manchester United. Carrick has now been appointed as permanent manager, leaving Rashford's future still up in the air.

Per Fabrizio Romano's follow-up report, Barcelona are not willing to pay €30 million to make Rashford's move permanent, but they are open to extending his loan spell.

In my personal opinion, Barcelona chose Gordon over Rashford mainly because Gordon is more active in defense and also earns a lower salary. Flick prefers Gordon to Rashford. Manchester United are unlikely to loan Rashford to Barcelona again. First, Carrick might bring him back into the first team; second, Rashford has considerable market appeal in the Premier League. It would not be difficult to sell this English homegrown forward for €30 million—€10 million below his valuation.
