Jadon Sancho and 5 other stars officially depart Manchester United

Manchester United has confirmed that Jadon Sancho is among the players departing on free transfers.

Jadon Sancho will leave Manchester United as a free agent at the end of this June, five years after the Red Devils signed him in a deal worth €85 million (£73 million).

The Old Trafford club is forced to let Sancho go for nothing after the player greatly disappointed and no club wanted to buy him.

Sancho was once one of Manchester United's blockbuster signings in the summer of 2021, alongside Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. He joined from Borussia Dortmund after shining brightly in the Bundesliga from the age of 17.

But at Old Trafford, things did not go according to plan for Sancho. The English winger scored just 12 goals and provided 6 assists in 83 appearances for United.

The 26-year-old returned to Dortmund on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season and played in the Champions League final that year. However, the German club lost to Real Madrid in the final.

After that, Sancho was loaned out two more times to Chelsea and Aston Villa. At both clubs, he won European trophies, including the Conference League with the London side and the Europa League last summer.

No club intended to keep Sancho with a permanent transfer. Chelsea even had to pay a penalty fee, and sources told ESPN that the reason was his refusal to take a pay cut.

Sancho is one of six players confirmed to leave Manchester United this summer, alongside first-team members Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia, as well as three academy players: Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey, and Malachi Sharpe.

He is likely to return to Dortmund for a third time in an attempt to revive his career. Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken previously said they are "considering" the benefits of re-signing him.
