U19 Indonesia exited the tournament at the semifinal stage of the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship following a last-minute loss to U19 Australia.
On the evening of June 11, host nation U19 Indonesia officially surrendered their title as defending champions of the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship after a heartbreaking defeat to U19 Australia in the semifinals. At the North Sumatra Stadium in Deli Serdang, the Indonesian team gave a spirited performance but conceded a cruel goal in stoppage time, thereby missing the chance to retain their regional championship.
Playing in front of passionate home supporters, U19 Indonesia started confidently and matched their traditional rivals in a balanced contest. However, U19 Australia, a five-time champion, showcased their resilience and composure in crucial moments. The two sides battled evenly for most of the match, with neither able to break through the other’s defense.
When many expected the match to go to a penalty shootout, a sudden turning point arrived in the 90+2 minute. From a late attacking move, U19 Australia scored the decisive goal to beat Indonesia 1-0. The late concession left the hosts devastated on the verge of the final, ending their title defense campaign.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal proved far more straightforward for U19 Thailand. Facing surprise package U19 Cambodia, the "War Elephants" quickly displayed their superior strength and took a two-goal lead in the first half through strikes from Phosri and Tippanet.
U19 Cambodia’s difficulties mounted when they were reduced to ten men from the 61st minute following a red card. Exploiting the numerical advantage, U19 Thailand constantly increased the pressure and added two more goals to seal the match with a resounding 4-0 victory, thereby securing a convincing spot in the final.
With these results, the final of the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship will be a showdown between U19 Australia and U19 Thailand on the evening of June 13. This marks the fourth time the two teams have met in a final of the tournament. In their three previous championship deciders, U19 Australia holds the upper hand with two wins, while U19 Thailand has claimed victory only once against this opponent.
