Special nutrition benefits will be provided to athletes competing in the Asian Games.

In collaboration with sports bodies, the Vietnam Sports Administration is developing a list of key personnel for ASIAD 20, which is scheduled for September in Japan. Selected coaches and athletes are slated to receive a special nutritional package under the new governmental policy.

At present, national squad members practicing at training facilities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Bac Ninh are provided with a daily food subsidy of 400,000 Vietnamese dong per individual.

However, under Decree No. 349/2025/NĐ-CP, trainers and athletes summoned for preparation of major sporting events—including the SEA Games, Asian Games, Asian Para Games, Olympics, and Paralympics—will be entitled to a daily nutritional allowance of 600,000 dong per person, for a maximum duration of 90 days.

For those prioritized athletes and coaches who have a strong chance of securing a gold medal at the Asian Games or meeting Olympic qualification standards, the daily subsidy may be increased to 800,000 Vietnamese dong per person. The final roster will be examined and ratified by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, following recommendations from the Vietnam Sports Administration.

As part of the strategy, each sport's coaching board has carried out an assessment of available personnel and drawn up an initial list of standout individuals to receive concentrated support during the last stage of preparations for the 20th Asian Games. Once consolidated, the Vietnam Sports Administration will submit its findings to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for a final determination.

The 20th Asian Games is set to be hosted in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, with certain competitions beginning as early as September 10. This event is regarded as the foremost international objective for Vietnam's sports sector in the year 2026.

During the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, Vietnam's contingent secured three gold medals in total, claimed in women's sepak takraw, women's team kata in karate, and marksman Phạm Quang Huy in shooting. This past performance serves as a foundation for the sports industry to maintain concentrated investment in disciplines with medal-winning potential at the forthcoming games on Japanese soil.

On the 17th of June, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, accompanied by the Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet and relevant professional staff, carried out a site visit to oversee and accelerate the training preparations of national squads at the National High-Level Athlete Training Center.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong stated that the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Sports Administration are consistently attentive and receptive to the smallest concerns and wishes of the athletes, in order to guarantee the best possible arrangements for meals, lodging, practice, and dietary support.

The Deputy Minister stressed that there is only a brief period left until the 20th Asian Games campaign officially commences in Japan. The direct engagement of sector leaders at the athletes' training venues serves as a tremendous morale booster, reigniting the confidence of the national team members. Driven by the motto 'Discipline - Responsibility - Efficiency,' Vietnam's sports sector is mobilizing all its resources, resolved to surmount every obstacle and bring honor to the homeland.
