Speaking to the media, VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu revealed that the federation has reported the composition of the Olympic Vietnam team for the 2026 ASIAD to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Sports Administration.

"The team will consist of players from the age group that will compete at the 2027 SEA Games, preparing for that tournament in Malaysia next year. Our goal at the ASIAD is to advance as far as possible, as this is a valuable opportunity for young players to gain international experience.

Coach Kim Sang Sik will be busy with duties for the Vietnam national team. Therefore, he will appoint an assistant to lead the Olympic team at the ASIAD, similar to how Coach Dinh Hong Vinh was previously assigned to oversee the youth teams," Tran Anh Tu stated.

The 20th ASIAD will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 6, 2026. The men's football event will begin before the opening ceremony.

Van Lam, along with Patrik Le Giang and Trung Kien, are notable for their impressive height in the Vietnam national team.

Bola Sports reported that the Indonesian team should pay close attention to the physical changes in the Vietnamese squad. According to their statistics, 15 out of 28 Vietnamese players are 1.80 meters tall or taller.

Bola Sports considers this figure surprising for a Southeast Asian team and particularly impressive for the Vietnam national team.

In the goalkeeper position, the trio of Tran Trung Kien (1.91m), Patrik Le Giang (1.88m), and Dang Van Lam (1.88m) have an average height of nearly 1.89m, which is seen as a significant advantage in aerial duels and controlling the penalty area.

At the 2026 ASEAN Cup, the Vietnam national team is placed in Group A alongside Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.
