The Vietnam National Team begins its training camp in preparation for the ASEAN Cup 2026 with a key highlight being the presence of assistant Kim Do-heon in the coaching staff. This addition is expected to provide head coach Kim Sang Sik with crucial professional support as the team aims to defend its regional championship title.
Kim Do-heon was born in 1982 and is a former South Korean international, having earned 62 caps for his country. He participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. During his playing career, Kim Do-heon represented notable clubs such as Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Seongnam FC, and West Bromwich Albion, and was named K League Player of the Year in 2007.
After retiring, Kim Do-heon transitioned into coaching, gaining experience in various professional football environments. He worked at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Chengdu Rongcheng before becoming head coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in 2024. With his high-level playing and coaching background, Kim Do-heon is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the Vietnam National Team.
On the afternoon of June 23, the Vietnam National Team officially held its first training session of the gathering, which serves as preparation for the ASEAN Cup 2026. This is a crucial period for coach Kim Sang Sik and his players to review the squad, strengthen gameplay, and refine necessary tactical plans before entering the tournament.
For this gathering, coach Kim Sang Sik has called up 28 players. The squad combines experienced veterans, promising young talents, naturalized players, and Vietnamese-origin players who have been performing well at the club level.
According to the plan, the Vietnam National Team will train in Hanoi until July 1, before departing for a training camp in South Korea from July 2 to July 14. During this period, the team is expected to play three friendly matches against suitable opponents, thereby testing the lineup, evaluating player form, and finalizing preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2026.
