Torment? Korean media in despair: Cheered for countless countries over 2 days, but only Spain helped. Promotion probability just 30%

On June 27, Beijing time, the final round of the World Cup group stage finished for Groups G, H, and I. As the South Korean team waited nervously for its ultimate destiny, it encountered yet another setback. Among the outcomes of 6 group fixtures in two days, 5 went against the South Korean men's squad. Leading Korean media Besteleven promptly remarked that the team could only rely on a miracle going forward.

According to this Korean media outlet's estimate, the probability of South Korea advancing to the round of 32 has plummeted to 31.5%, dropping to just a 30% chance. On the final matchday, they need help from at least two of Groups J, K, and L to qualify.

In response, the Korean media said in despair: “We cheered for countless countries, but so far only Spain has helped South Korea. Now, we can only pin our hopes on a miracle.

The Korean media also lamented: “South Korea's World Cup fate will be decided tomorrow. Until the last day of the group stage, South Korea cannot resolve anything on its own, leaving its destiny in others' hands. This is truly a frustrating moment.”

Indeed, as a Group A team, South Korea was the first to finish its final round. However, after losing 0-1 to South Africa and dropping to third place in the group, they had to endure three agonizing matchdays before learning whether they would advance or head home.

Currently, five third-place teams—Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Paraguay, and Senegal—have already secured knockout-stage spots ahead of them. South Korea is only certain to be ahead of Scotland and Uruguay, while it has been definitively overtaken by Iran.

In the final round, they can only hope thatGhana beats Croatia, Uzbekistan beats DR Congo, and Austria beats Algeria. As things stand, achieving at least two of these results is no small challenge.
