According to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in the Middle East, the Jordanian team ended their final Group J match with a 1-3 defeat to defending champions Argentina. Although they could not advance, this was a historic milestone as Jordan appeared in the World Cup finals for the first time.

The match received special attention in Jordan as King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein were present in the stands to support the national team. The presence of the Jordanian royal family highlighted the significance beyond a football match, as the country's team participated in the world's biggest football festival for the first time.

Facing the strength of the reigning champions, Argentina took an early lead with goals from Giovani Lo Celso and Lautaro Martinez in the first half. However, Jordan did not give up and performed better after the break. The highlight for Jordan was Mousa Tamari's goal in the second half following a pass from Ehsan Haddad. This was the first time Jordan scored against Argentina, and also the first goal conceded by the defending champions at the 2026 World Cup. This moment was seen as a symbol of the resilient spirit of the West Asian team in their first appearance on the World Cup stage.

Although Lionel Messi later sealed a 3-1 victory for Argentina with a free kick in the 80th minute, the match left its own mark for Jordan. For the country's fans, the 2026 World Cup was not just a sporting event but also an opportunity for Jordanian football to assert a new status regionally and internationally.

Jordan's journey at the 2026 World Cup ended in the group stage, but their first-ever participation, scoring against Argentina, and playing in front of the country's top leadership turned this campaign into a historic milestone for Jordanian sports.

Meanwhile, the Iranian team officially bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup after finishing third in Group G with 3 points from three draws against Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt. The West Asian team had been in a position to qualify for the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. However, results in other groups did not go their way, leading to Iran's regrettable elimination.

Beyond the on-field results, Iran's journey in the tournament was also affected by various off-field factors, given that the event was held in the United States. The Iranian team encountered some difficulties related to visa procedures and travel, while the US side asserted that these regulations had been communicated before the tournament began.

Earlier, Iran had proposed changing the group stage venue to Mexico, and subsequently the team was assigned to set up its base in Tijuana, Mexico, instead of Tucson, Arizona as originally planned. After the draw with Egypt in the final group match, Coach Amir Ghalenoei stated that the Iranian team had experienced a challenging World Cup. He affirmed that what the Iranian players went through should be recorded as part of the country's football history.

The elimination of both Jordan and Iran in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup concludes the journey of two West Asian football representatives, each leaving different imprints but evoking many emotions for fans.
