Latest updates from the Swimming World Championships: China's first gold medal, Qin Haiyang wins the men's 100m breaststroke, while Zhang Yufei faces defeat.

On July 28, 2025, the Singapore Swimming World Championships continued fiercely. In the highly anticipated men's 100m breaststroke final, Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang claimed the gold medal with a time of 58.23 seconds, making a strong comeback. Meanwhile, defending champion Zhang Yufei finished fourth in the women's 100m butterfly, narrowly missing out on a medal!

The men's 100m breaststroke is one of our strong events, showcasing talents like Qin Haiyang. At the last World Championships, he won multiple titles in breaststroke events. However, Qin faced a setback at the Paris Olympics, failing to secure any gold medals, marking a significant low point in his career, which drew heavy criticism. This year, at the World Championships, Qin undoubtedly aims to prove his status as the king of breaststroke, aiming for the gold in the 100m event, with his biggest rival being Olympic champion Martinenghi. As the race began, the first half was fiercely contested with no clear leader, but in the last 25 meters, Qin surged ahead with an explosive finish, securing victory with a time of 58.23 seconds, reclaiming his title and breaking China's medal drought at this event, marking the first gold for the Chinese swimming team!

In the women's 100m butterfly, gold medalist Zhang Yufei, a prominent Chinese swimmer and defending champion, was highly anticipated. Unfortunately, she struggled due to injuries, finishing fourth and missing the podium. The gold went to American star Walsh, who won with a commanding lead. This outcome is quite understandable, as Zhang's current performance has indeed declined compared to her peak, and we shouldn't be too harsh, considering she is no longer young!

Additionally, in the women's 200m individual medley final, 12-year-old Chinese prodigy Yu Zidi performed exceptionally well, making her debut at the World Championships and achieving a time of 2:09.21 in the final, finishing fourth and just missing out on a medal, falling short by a mere 0.06 seconds. It's quite unfortunate, but her future potential is immense, and we look forward to seeing more from her!
