Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Benjamin Šeško will earn less after joining Manchester United compared to choosing Newcastle United. According to reports from Slovenia, the 22-year-old striker's weekly salary next season will be £160,000, which can automatically increase by 25% to £200,000 if he secures Champions League qualification.
Of course, Newcastle's weekly salary offer to Šeško won't be much higher than Manchester United's, as the team has strict salary limits. Isak requested a transfer because his demand for a £300,000 weekly salary was rejected. The "Magpies" are only willing to offer Isak £200,000 per week, while their highest-paid player, captain Guimarães, earns around £160,000 to £180,000 weekly.
Therefore, don’t think that Šeško sacrificed income by choosing Manchester United; he and his agent are focused on long-term financial gains. The Red Devils clearly have much more room for salary increases than Newcastle, with the team's highest weekly earner, Casemiro, making £350,000. Thus, as long as he performs well, Šeško can strive for a higher salary in the future.
This doesn’t even mention the off-field commercial value of playing for Manchester United, which far exceeds that of Newcastle; only a few teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona can compare. Hence, Šeško accepted a slightly lower salary, and his agent reduced the commission demands to help Manchester United complete the signing from RB Leipzig.
To persuade Leipzig to accept a lower transfer offer than Newcastle, Manchester United proposed a special plan. According to Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany, the Red Devils will play a friendly match at Leipzig's home ground in the future, which will help the club earn between €1.5 million and €2 million in match revenue.
The conditions for the achievement of the performance-related clauses in Šeško's transfer contract are quite realistic, with no demands for the team to win the Champions League or for the player to win the Ballon d'Or. Therefore, Leipzig has a good chance of not only receiving the full €85 million but also matching Newcastle's offer of €90 million. Manchester United will also bear the €3.5 million solidarity tax for this transaction, responsible for paying the second transfer share to Salzburg, which is why Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer speaks highly of the Red Devils.
Fans are also interested in the jersey number Šeško might wear at Manchester United. Reports indicate that during negotiations, his agent expressed a desire for the number 9 jersey, but Manchester United's Danish international Højlund has not left yet and currently occupies that number.
Šeško has consistently worn the number 30 jersey at the club level; however, the Red Devils have assigned that number to another new signing, Diego Llorente. Of course, the current Premier League numbers have not been registered yet, so players can still change their jersey numbers, and the club can request Llorente to switch.
When Šeško played for his first club, Liffey, he wore the number 21 jersey. At Manchester United, this number belongs to the soon-to-depart Antony, so it can be chosen. He could also consider the number 12 or 17 jerseys, as their current holders, Tyrell Malacia and Garnacho, are also likely to transfer this summer.
In the Slovenia national team, Šeško primarily wears the number 11 jersey, which is currently held by Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United. Considering Zirkzee's determination to stay at Manchester United, he is unlikely to relinquish this number. If Šeško does not take an existing Manchester United jersey number, the only available numbers he can choose from are 14, 20, 27, 28, 29, 31, and so on.
