Wirtz, whose transfer fee of £100 million, including add-ons, could potentially reach £116 million, which would set a British record, received 191 votes from German sports journalists, placing him well ahead of the second-place Michael Olise from Bayern Munich, who received 81 votes.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in June, as part of a spending spree that also brought in players like French forward Hugo Ekitike and Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez to the team as Liverpool aims to defend their Premier League title.
Wirtz has been praised as one of the "top players in the world. He is world class," by former Leverkusen coach and ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is now the head coach of Real Madrid.
Upon his arrival, Wirtz expressed to Liverpool's website that he "wants to win everything every year!"
"Ultimately, we aim for success," he stated.
"Last season, they clinched the Premier League, so my goal is definitely to win it again and to progress further in the Champions League. I'm very ambitious," he added.
Wirtz played a crucial part in Leverkusen's most successful season, where they won their first-ever Bundesliga title and the German Cup in 2023/24 without suffering a single domestic defeat under Alonso.
Their only loss that season, during which Wirtz was named Bundesliga player of the year, occurred in the Europa League final against Italian team Atalanta, preventing Leverkusen from achieving a historic treble.
With a tally of 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 matches for Leverkusen, he demonstrates his capability as both a creator and a goal-scorer.
Liverpool already boasts a wealth of attacking options -- including Mohammed Salah -- but the club is relying on Wirtz's creativity to sustain the prolific scoring of the 33-year-old and alleviate the pressure of leading the Liverpool attack.
