Manchester United faces the final hurdle in selling Hojlund! Details of his signing from the past have emerged, ignoring warnings led to negative consequences.

Serie A giants AC Milan are intensifying their pursuit of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund. They won’t wait indefinitely and hope to finalize the deal before the Serie A season kicks off. The first round of Serie A starts on August 24, so the Rossoneri are eager for the 22-year-old Danish forward to make a decision within a week.

According to reports from "Insight Offside," Hojlund may initially be loaned to Milan, with a loan fee of €6 million and an option to buy potentially worth between €40 million and €45 million. Milan is currently in direct talks with Hojlund's agent to reach an agreement. However, they are also closely monitoring the situation of Juventus' Vlahovic as a potential option for their attack.

After Manchester United signed Sesko, Hojlund's future has become uncertain. According to ESPN, Hojlund is somewhat hesitant about leaving United, as he had confidently stated weeks ago that he would stay, fearing embarrassment if a sudden transfer occurred. However, he also realizes that if he remains with the team, his playing time this season will likely be limited.

Hojlund may only get to play during garbage time in the Premier League or in the early rounds of the League Cup and FA Cup. Manchester United's League Cup campaign starts in the second round, and they have drawn the lower league side Grimsby. According to League Cup rules, Premier League teams that miss out on European competitions must play an extra round, marking United's first participation in the second round of the League Cup in 11 years. The last time the Red Devils faced Grimsby was in 1948!

However, if the Red Devils take the lower league team lightly and field a casual lineup, they could face an upset. In the 2023/24 season, Manchester United faced Newport County in the FA Cup, leading 2-0 after 13 minutes, only to see their opponents equalize. United had to fight hard to progress. Interestingly, Hojlund scored in that match, netting a goal in the 94th minute of stoppage time.

ESPN also reported that the club does not intend to force Hojlund out; they simply state that he will not receive much playing time and are prepared to accept reasonable offers for him. Manchester United is considering both permanent transfer and loan options, and Milan's bid may be accepted, allowing "the freight carrier" to decide his fate.

Neither Manchester United nor Hojlund wishes to be the driving force behind this transfer, as it would only waste both parties' time.

As long as he integrates into the team, the €85 million new signing Sesko will undoubtedly be Amorin's first choice as a striker, with Zirkzee serving as his backup. With no European competitions, Manchester United aims to reduce squad size and lower wage costs. Hojlund still has potential, but he has lost confidence, often bullied by Premier League defenders last season, and starting over in Italy might be his best option.

Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly also monitoring Hojlund's situation, but these are mostly just rumors to drive up the price, and it’s unlikely that either team will take substantial action.

The Daily Telegraph in the UK states that Manchester United's poor transfer strategy has placed Hojlund in a losing position. The club spent £72 million to sign him, whereas United's financial model warned the transfer department that Hojlund from Atalanta was realistically worth at most £50 million.

Regardless, United's higher-ups have decided to push forward with this transfer. They paid £22 million more than the suggested upper limit for the transfer fee, making it impossible for Hojlund to justify such a price, and he will inevitably face criticism for being "overpriced and underperforming."

Not only did Manchester United's data team warn against signing Hojlund at a high price, but then-Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini also stated that the Danish forward was not ready to join the Red Devils at such an early stage.

At that time, Hojlund had made 34 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 10 goals and providing 4 assists. However, Gasperini advised him: "I believe Hojlund should stay for another season. He undoubtedly has immense talent, but there is still significant room for improvement. This is evident on both levels; he must work hard to improve, as he possesses the qualities to become one of the best strikers in the world."

Two top scouts also cautioned former Manchester United manager Ten Hag, with one saying: "Hojlund has yet to prove himself, and the Premier League is a very unforgiving place, especially when wearing a Manchester United jersey. He is a left-footed player and tall, so it’s easy to compare him to the likes of Haaland, but they are not on the same level. Haaland is a once-in-a-generation talent, while Hojlund is far from that and his shooting is quite inconsistent."
