A player from the Myanmar women's national team is virtually certain to receive an individual accolade, despite not yet having played in the final of the 2025 AFF Women's Championship.
The Myanmar women's team is expected to face significant challenges in the 2025 AFF Women's Championship final against Australia, who previously defeated Vietnam in the semifinals.
Nevertheless, Myanmar's women still have several distinct advantages over their opponents, notably the scoring form of their captain, Win Theingi Tun.
Throughout their journey to the final, the 1995-born star has netted seven goals and currently leads the top scorer chart. Janista Jinantuya from Thailand holds second place with four goals. Therefore, it's safe to say that Win Theingi Tun is set to claim the tournament's Golden Boot, as only one match remains for the players.
At present, Win Theingi Tun has scored 85 goals for the Myanmar women's national team, ranking 14th among the greatest international women's goal scorers. Of those ahead of her, only five are still active, all of whom are global stars like Marta, Vivianne Miedema, and Eugénie Le Sommer. Remarkably, her average of 0.96 goals per game surpasses all these names.
The 30-year-old has been an indispensable pillar for Myanmar in this tournament. She has found the net in all four recent matches, including a brace against Thailand in the semifinals, helping her team pull off a shock and reach the final.
Despite being on the verge of winning the Golden Boot, Win Theingi Tun has stated that she is not focused on individual accolades, but is instead committed to winning the championship with her teammates.
At the pre-match press conference, coach Uki Tetsuro reiterated this point and expressed hope that his players will give their all in the final match.
The Japanese coach shared: "She is the tournament's leading scorer and has contributed greatly to the team. Yet, as she has said, for her, it’s not just about scoring—winning and contributing to the collective are what truly matter. I am very satisfied, not just with Win Theingi Tun, but with all my players. I hope they will perform to their fullest in the upcoming match. I am truly grateful to the whole team."
The 2025 AFF Women's Championship final between Myanmar and Australia will take place at 19:30 on August 19 at Lach Tray Stadium.
