Huynh Nhu was awarded the best player of the match again thanks to her outstanding play versus Thailand.
In the 65th minute of the third-place playoff at the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship, Thailand's defense made a costly mistake by losing possession at home. A great pass from a teammate gave Huynh Nhu a chance to face the Thai goalkeeper. Although it took her two attempts, the captain of Vietnam's women's team finally found the net, making it 2-0.
For Huynh Nhu personally, this goal was especially important as it eased her goal-scoring pressure. Nearly two years have passed since she last scored for the Vietnamese women's team in a 3-1 win over India in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers (October 2023).
Even in three Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers against weaker opponents and recent matches at the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship, Huynh Nhu couldn’t score despite Vietnam’s big wins. Wearing the number 9 jersey, she still played well and contributed greatly to the team, but luck had not been on her side.
After the 3-1 victory over Thailand in the third-place match, Huynh Nhu was named the match's outstanding player. This was her second time receiving this honor at the tournament. The previous MVP award also came after a win against Thailand in the group stage, where she assisted the only goal of the match.
After the match, Huynh Nhu emotionally shared: "I feel extremely happy. Before the game, we set a goal to win and dedicate the victory to our fans. So many supporters came to the stadium, which touched us deeply, and the whole team gave their all.
As for the goal, I have never scored and seen everyone so happy. Everyone hugged me, and it was wonderful. Today is truly special, as I scored on August 19. I dedicate this goal to fans across the country. I wish everyone lots of joy and happiness. Today, the whole team promised each other to play our best. We worked hard and won this match for the supporters who have always stood by the team."
