Newcastle released a statement in response to Isak’s social media comments, reaffirming their commitment to keeping the 25-year-old forward at any price.
The conflict between Alexander Isak and Newcastle United has officially erupted after the Swedish striker posted a shocking message, accusing the club of “breaking promises” and declaring that their relationship had reached a dead end. With Liverpool aggressively pursuing him, Newcastle quickly fired back with a strong statement, insisting Isak will not be leaving this summer.
On Tuesday evening, Isak made his voice heard through an Instagram post, stating he had “stayed silent too long while others controlled the narrative,” and highlighting “promises have been broken, trust is lost, and the relationship can no longer continue.”This move stirred public opinion, especially since he had previously gone on strike, refusing to return to training with his teammates in an attempt to force a move to Liverpool.
However, Newcastle’s upper management responded almost instantly. In a press release, a club representative stated: “Alex remains under contract and there has never been any agreement allowing him to leave this summer. We want to keep our best players, but the interests of the club and our fans come first. The conditions for a transfer have never been met, and we do not foresee that changing.”
This firm stance is believed to be a result of Newcastle’s failures in the transfer market. Throughout the summer, they pursued targets like Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike, and Benjamin Sesko, but none of these deals materialized. Their plan to sign two strikers to facilitate Isak’s departure collapsed, forcing the club to keep the 25-year-old star at any cost despite his strong resistance.
According to sources from the Daily Mail , the dispute began last spring when co-owner Amanda Staveley reportedly promised Isak a new contract with improved terms. However, new sporting director Paul Mitchell later stated this would not happen, leaving Isak feeling betrayed. As soon as the season ended, the Swedish striker expressed his desire to leave the club.
Since then, tensions have only escalated. Isak has repeatedly insisted there is “no way back,” believing that a separation would be best for both parties. Newcastle, however, maintains that no such promises were ever made and affirms that he remains “part of the club’s family.”
Currently, the deadlock remains unresolved. Liverpool is reportedly prepared to reopen negotiations if Newcastle decides to sell, but this seems highly unlikely as the Northeast club insists “there are no circumstances under which Isak will be allowed to leave.”
As a result, Isak’s future has become a focal point in English football during the final weeks of the transfer window. Will he compromise and reintegrate with his teammates, or continue his strike to force Newcastle’s hand? The answer promises to keep the market heated in the coming days.
