Alejandro Garnacho has rejected an offer from Bayern Munich, the reigning Bundesliga champions, insisting Chelsea is his sole destination. The 21-year-old Argentine winger was one of five players excluded from first-team training following a dispute with Ruben Amorim last season, but he’s committed to staying in England’s top flight and has accepted Chelsea’s terms.
After last season’s Europa League final, Amorim publicly told Garnacho he was free to find a new club this summer. Despite interest from several teams, Garnacho’s transfer demands have restrictedthe options available. He is determined to stay in the Premier League and join a club with Champions League football. According to talkSPORT radio, Garnacho has already told friends he’s moving to Chelsea.
This is seen as Garnacho’s way of proving to Manchester United and Amorim that discarding him was a mistake. United initially valued Garnacho at £70 million, but after his fallout with the manager, the club lowered their expectations and set his price at £50 million.
Garnacho’s desire to play for Chelsea in the Premier League is so strong that he turned down Bayern, even though they could almost guarantee him his first league title—just as Harry Kane achieved.
Garnacho has made 144 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists. He won the FA Cup with United in the 2023/24 season and the League Cup the previous year, but has never won a Premier League title.
Manchester United and Chelsea have held extensive negotiations, with Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming: “Chelsea’s talks with United over Garnacho’s transfer are very advanced! The deal is progressing well, and relations between United CEO Bellada and Chelsea’s board are good. Garnacho only wants Chelsea; in the last 48 hours, he rejected Bayern’s offer, and other clubs have no chance.”
United and the Blues are speeding up discussions, with less than two weeks left to complete the deal. If the transfer falls through, Chelsea won’t be heavily affected, as Garnacho is expected to rotate with new signing Gittens for the left wing under coach Enzo Maresca, but United could suffer significant consequences.
As a homegrown player, all of Garnacho’s transfer income counts as pure profit for United. Moreover, his relationship with Amorim isn’t the only one that’s soured—he’s also fallen out with United fans, who last week painted over a Garnacho mural outside Old Trafford.
However, Garnacho has informed the club that if he cannot join Chelsea, he’s prepared to sit in the stands for the next six months or even the entire season, collecting his £50,000 weekly wage without playing. Of course, nobody wants this outcome, including Garnacho himself.
With less than a year until the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Garnacho is eager to join a new club and get his career back on track. He recently missed out on Argentina’s squad for the September South American qualifiers, having spent the past month training alone at Carrington. Garnacho hopes to join Chelsea and earn playing time to change national team coach Lionel Scaloni’s mind.
Reportedly, when Garnacho represented Argentina against Paraguay last season, he came on as a substitute in the second half while the team was trailing. The coach urged him to take on defenders one-on-one and not worry about losing possession, but he kept passing backwards, which frustrated the coaching staff.
British media reveal that Chelsea have reaffirmed their intent to sign Garnacho and have told the United winger to be patient, as they plan to take their time in negotiations and are comfortable waiting until the transfer deadline. The Blues are confident, fully aware that United are in a weaker negotiating position since Garnacho staying would only cause them problems.
