The draw for the women's singles at the 2025 WTA China Open has been conducted, with stars like Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and many others discovering their potential paths in the tournament.
At the WTA 1000 event in Beijing featuring 96 players, the top 32 seeds receive a bye in the first round. World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka has chosen not to participate, while Madison Keys, Danielle Collins, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Marketa Vondrousova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Olga Danilovic have also withdrawn.
The top 8 seeds are: Iga Swiatek (1), Coco Gauff (2), Amanda Anisimova (3), Mirra Andreeva (4), Jessica Pegula (5), Jasmine Paolini (6), Zheng Qinwen (7), and Elena Rybakina (8). Swiatek arrives after winning the WTA 500 title in Seoul last week — the 25th title of her career.
The Polish player will begin her Beijing campaign against Yuan Yue or Yulia Putintseva, with a likely third-round match against 28th seed Anna Kalinskaya. The six-time Grand Slam champion may face 16th seed Emma Navarro in round four, 5th seed Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, and 4th seed Mirra Andreeva in the semifinals.
If she reaches the final, Swiatek could meet Gauff, Anisimova, Paolini, or Rybakina — all positioned in the lower half of the draw.
Swiatek has been placed in a relatively manageable section at the 2025 China Open.
Coco Gauff, the reigning China Open champion, will face either Lucia Bronzetti or Kamilla Rakhimova in round two, marking her first match since the US Open. The world No.3 and two-time Grand Slam champion is expected to meet 25th seed Leylah Fernandez in round three, 15th seed Belinda Bencic in round four, and 8th seed Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals.
If Gauff advances to the semifinals, she might face fellow American Amanda Anisimova, who was runner-up at the last two Grand Slams. In the final, Gauff could face Swiatek, Andreeva, Pegula, or Zheng. Naturally, the dream final would be a match between Gauff and Swiatek.
British hope Emma Raducanu is in the upper half of the draw and will play against Donna Vekic or a qualifier in her opening match. She could face 5th seed Jessica Pegula in round three. The English player might meet 12th seed Naomi Osaka in the round of 16, with Swiatek expected as a quarterfinal opponent.
