Federer’s $1.5 million luxury watch astonishes Alcaraz, reflecting deeply on his retirement moment

At the 2025 Laver Cup, Federer shared a touching moment with Alcaraz: the Swiss legend generously showed the Spaniard his $1.5 million Rolex Daytona. Interestingly, both Federer and Alcaraz are brand ambassadors for Rolex, the renowned luxury watchmaker headquartered in Switzerland.

This scene took place inside the players’ gym at the Chase Center in San Francisco—the venue for the 2025 Laver Cup and home of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. When the retired Federer handed over a platinum Rolex Daytona to Alcaraz, the Spaniard was visibly amazed by the watch’s sapphire and obsidian dial, and several world number one teammates eagerly gathered to admire it closely.

Regarding this year’s Laver Cup performance, former world number one and 20-time Grand Slam winner Federer believed that Team Europe, led by current world number one and six-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz, would hold some advantage over Team World. However, the outcome turned out differently, with Team World ultimately lifting the trophy.

Alcaraz made his Laver Cup debut in 2024, defeating Fritz in the final to help Team Europe claim victory. Yet this year, he faced the American again in the opening match, and despite widespread expectations favoring Alcaraz, Fritz caused an upset by winning in straight sets, delivering a heavy blow to Team Europe.

Nevertheless, Alcaraz quickly regained his form, comfortably beating Cerundolo and teaming up with Ruud to secure a doubles win. Although these efforts briefly revived hope for Team Europe, they were ultimately in vain. Fritz defeated Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) in the decisive match, securing Team World’s third Laver Cup title.

As a co-founder of this men’s team tennis event, Federer attended multiple matches at the Chase Center in San Francisco, including Fritz’s surprising victory over Alcaraz and the American’s win against Zverev in the final showdown.

After the event, Federer shared a photo of Team World’s celebration featuring captain Agassi, Fritz, Deminal, Cerundolo, Michelson, Fonseca, and Opelka. The Swiss added a heartfelt message: “Congratulations to Team World! Had a fantastic weekend in San Francisco.”

Three years ago, during the 2022 Laver Cup, Federer announced his retirement—one of the most significant and emotional moments in tennis history. His farewell moved fans deeply and left his rivals and teammates Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray visibly touched.

In a live interview hosted by Andy Roddick on this year’s Laver Cup edition of "Served with Andy Roddick," Federer reflected on his retirement, calling it the most fulfilling moment of his career. “It felt like a perfect ending. Considering my history with Rafa and how many times we faced each other, having him by my side meant a lot,” Federer told Roddick. “When I realized I wouldn’t return, it was emotional but peaceful—I could share that moment with my team, opponents, family, and fans.”

“It went beyond me personally. In many ways, I felt a relief because the uncertainty was finally over. You always hold onto hope that your body might cooperate again. But once you accept reality, the ending is beautiful. Sharing that moment with Rafa wasn’t planned years in advance; it happened naturally, which made it feel more genuine,” he added.

Among the “Big Four,” all except Djokovic have now retired. Today, the tennis stage is gradually being taken over by a new generation of stars like Sinner and Alcaraz, who are steadily becoming the sport’s dominant forces.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
