Jannik Sinner quietly sharpens a special "weapon" to seek revenge against Carlos Alcaraz

Two weeks after the US Open final, Jannik Sinner is prepared to return to competition at the China Open in Beijing. The Italian player has reinforced his team and is honing a crucial "weapon."

Jannik Sinner adds a physiotherapy expert and works on improving his serve.

The Italian player recently lost the world No. 1 ranking to Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated him in New York, ending Sinner’s 65-week streak at the top. This means Sinner now takes on the role of the hunter instead of the hunted.

In 2024, Sinner reached the China Open final but was defeated by Alcaraz. However, there will be no rematch this year as the Spanish player decided not to defend his title and instead chose to compete in Tokyo, Japan.

By reaching all four Grand Slam finals in a single season, Sinner became the fourth player in the Open Era to accomplish this feat, following Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.

Nevertheless, both players are still considered top contenders in the tournaments they enter. While Alcaraz recently traveled to Japan after a long journey from San Francisco—where he participated in the Laver Cup representing Team Europe—Sinner arrived in China a few days earlier and began training.

The China tour also represents a new phase in Sinner’s career. He officially appointed Alejandro Resnicoff, a seasoned Argentine physiotherapist, to his coaching team. Resnicoff has over 15 to 20 years of experience within the ATP system and became publicly recognized when young player Jakub Mensik publicly thanked him after winning the Miami Open.
