Joy! Djokovic Officially Announces Participation in Shanghai Masters

“Hello to my Chinese fans and the fans in Shanghai! I am very excited to share with you that I will be returning to Shanghai this year to compete in the Shanghai Rolex Masters!”

“Over the past years, I have achieved great results in Shanghai, and I am really looking forward to meeting you all again during this golden week. See you in Shanghai! Shanghai, Let’s Meet!”

Yes, you heard it right. The former world No.1 and 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic is coming to Shanghai to compete! He announced this news through the event organizers and also sent greetings to fans in China.

In the later stage of his career, Djokovic’s decision to travel to China for this tournament shows how much he values this event. Although he hasn’t won any Grand Slam titles this season, at 38 years old, reaching the semifinals in all four Grand Slams is already an impressive achievement.

Speaking of Djokovic’s past achievements at the Shanghai Masters, “excellent” doesn’t even begin to describe it. Among the 40 Masters titles the Serbian star has won, four of them were claimed in Shanghai.

In 2012, seeded second at the tournament, Djokovic defeated players like Dimitrov, Feliciano López, and Berrettini to reach the final, where he battled through three sets to overcome Britain’s Murray and win his first Shanghai Masters title.

In the 2013 season, now the top seed and defending champion, Djokovic again defeated strong opponents including Fognini, Monfils, and Tsonga, and triumphed over Del Potro in a three-set final to claim his second Shanghai crown.

Djokovic’s third Shanghai Masters title came in 2015, when he was again the top seed and defeated top players such as Tomic, Murray, and Tsonga on his way to the trophy.

The Serbian’s last Shanghai Masters victory was in 2018, seeded second, where he eliminated players like Anderson and Zverev, then won the final in straight sets against Čilić.

The Shanghai Masters was not held from 2020 to 2022. Djokovic missed the 2023 edition. Last year, as the fourth seed, he performed strongly, defeating players like Fritz to reach the final again, but was ultimately defeated in straight sets by top seed Sinner, missing out on the title.

Among the current participants of this year’s Shanghai Masters are top-ranked players such as Sinner, Alcaraz, Zverev, and Fritz. What do you think Djokovic’s results will be this year?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
