After an emotional triumph at the 2025 US Open, Aryna Sabalenka chose to temporarily step away from tennis to rest. The world’s top player is currently enjoying a relaxing break off the court, recently sharing romantic moments from a holiday in Greece with her boyfriend.
Sabalenka’s absence from the China Open—a WTA 1000 event featuring most of the top stars—disappointed many fans. Nevertheless, after winning a Grand Slam title and earning $5 million in New York, the Belarusian player confirmed she needed some quiet time to recharge.
Sabalenka chose Greece as her getaway spot, where she and her boyfriend Georgios Frangulis are enjoying their vacation together. Frangulis is familiar to tennis fans, having been a regular part of Sabalenka’s support team in recent months. It’s no surprise they selected Greece, as Frangulis’s parents both come from there.
Sabalenka takes a break from tennis to vacation with her boyfriend following the 2025 US Open.
Frangulis was born in September 1988 in São Paulo, Brazil. He holds Brazilian citizenship and is well-known in the business community for his food brand Oakberry. Launched in December 2016, Oakberry uses the Acai berry—a fruit famous in Brazil—and quickly became a global phenomenon. The brand has since grown into a multi-million dollar company with over 600 locations in more than 35 countries.
The connection between Sabalenka and Frangulis began in late 2023 or early 2024, when the world number one signed a commercial deal with Oakberry. Shortly afterward, they publicly revealed their relationship. Frangulis first appeared in Sabalenka’s audience box at the Madrid Open in May 2024 and continued to accompany her during her victories at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open that same year.
In rare media comments, the Brazilian businessman admitted he feels very nervous watching his girlfriend play. “The hardest part is sitting in the box cheering. It’s one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever had,” Frangulis said. “I’ve loved tennis for a long time, and my company has sponsored many tournaments. But when there’s such a personal connection, the emotions are totally different. During difficult matches, sitting in the box is a real test.”
He also shared that he tries hard to control his emotions so as not to affect Sabalenka: “I never say anything during the match and try to keep my emotions in check because Aryna is very perceptive and can notice everything. I just clap loudly so she knows she has my support. For me, the most important moment is after the match—making sure she feels truly comfortable and happy.”
Sabalenka has affirmed that happiness in her personal life is the key to her peak performance on court. After winning the US Open, the world’s top player openly thanked her support team and boyfriend Frangulis, who is regarded as her greatest emotional support during this critical phase of her career.
