Roger Federer has shared his views on how to defeat Carlos Alcaraz, the world’s top-ranked player currently in dominant form.
The Spanish player lost only seven matches throughout the season, and his US Open victory helped him surpass longtime rival Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz has faced Rafael Nadal three times on tour and Novak Djokovic nine times, including two Wimbledon finals. However, he has never played against the third member of the "Big Three" – Roger Federer, who retired in 2022, the same year Alcaraz broke through.
Alcaraz’s impressive performance makes him a leading candidate for the ATP Finals to end the season. However, Federer, a tennis legend, revealed the strategy he would use if he faced the six-time Grand Slam champion.
In an interview with Cracked Racquets, Federer stressed that the tactic depends on the court surface: "Clearly, everything depends on the surface, because not every court lets you simply overpower Alcaraz by hitting hard. You have to outmaneuver him, which is obviously extremely difficult."
