The Shanghai Masters 2025 will take place from September 29 (qualifying rounds) to October 12 in Shanghai, China. It is the second last ATP 1000 event of the year and one of the most popular tournaments on the ATP Tour.
Similar to other tournaments held in China, the Shanghai Masters offers a substantial prize pool for participants: over 9 million USD, with the singles champion earning more than 1 million USD. This season again gathers top stars including Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, and notably Novak Djokovic, who has not competed in any other ATP 1000 event this year since the Madrid Open in late April.
The Shanghai Masters will continue to be played on outdoor hard courts as usual, with a roof available in case of rain. It is regarded as one of the ATP Tour events that produce fast ball speeds, except last year when Wilson balls were used. This year, Yonex balls have been introduced again, expected to benefit players with strong serves.
The defending champion of the Shanghai Masters is Jannik Sinner, who defeated Novak Djokovic 2-0 in the 2024 final. Djokovic holds the record as the most successful player at this ATP 1000 event with four titles won in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018.
