The Shanghai Masters draw has been released; how many wins can the five Chinese male players achieve?

The 2025 China Open is actively ongoing, and the battle for qualification in the Shanghai Masters men's singles has begun. Today afternoon, the main draw for the men's singles was released. Let's explore the detailed main draw matchups together.

Regarding the top eight seeds, the upper half remains led by the top seed Alcaraz. He is currently competing at the ATP 500 Tokyo event, where he recently defeated Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz has reached at least the semifinals in all nine consecutive tournaments he has played, and this victory marked his 65th singles win of the season.

The men's singles semifinal lineup at this year's Tokyo event is very impressive. Besides Alcaraz, the second seed Fritz and fourth seed Ruud have also advanced smoothly to the semifinals. The last semifinal spot belongs to Brooks, who entered using a protected ranking.

Along with Alcaraz in the upper half are the third seed Zverev, seventh seed De Minaur, and eighth seed Musetti. All four players received byes in the first round, advancing directly to the second round.

The lower half is led by another Grand Slam champion, Sinner. The Italian star is currently competing at the China Open. Other top eight seeds in the lower half of the Shanghai Masters include fourth seed Djokovic, fifth seed Fritz, and sixth seed Shelton.

Besides the well-known top players, five Chinese men have directly entered the main draw this year. Among them, Bu Yunchaokete is the only Chinese player who qualified based on his world ranking. His first-round opponent is Cerundolo.

The other four players received wild cards into the main draw: Wu Yibing, Shang Juncheng, Zhou Yi, and Zhang Zhizhen. They will face qualifiers, Kovacevic, De Jong, and Baez respectively in the first round. Overall, the draw looks quite favorable for the Chinese players this year, as none of them face seeded players in the opening round.

Last year at the Shanghai Masters, five Chinese players also appeared in the singles main draw. Zhang Zhizhen lost in the first round 4-6, 3-6 to Berrettini, and Bu Yunchaokete was defeated 3-6, 4-6 by American player Mikaelson.

Young players Zhou Yi and Shang Juncheng both won their first-round matches but were eliminated in the second round by Tiafoe and Alcaraz respectively, missing out on a third-round appearance.

Another wild card entrant, Wu Yibing, performed best among the five. He defeated Nagal and Jarry consecutively to reach the round of 32, but ultimately lost to the third seed Alcaraz in the third round, falling short of advancing further.

So, who do you think will be the Chinese player to go the furthest in this year’s Shanghai Masters?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
