Alcaraz withdraws from the Shanghai Masters due to a left ankle injury!

On September 30, 2025, ATP officially announced that Spanish tennis star Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from this year's Rolex Shanghai Masters because of a left ankle injury. This decision not only disappointed Chinese fans looking forward to his appearance but also directly affected the tournament draw.

Although Alcaraz twisted his ankle in the first round against Baeza at the Tokyo Open, he played through the injury and ultimately won the title, marking his eighth ATP Tour victory this season, firmly leading the tour championship rankings.

Regarding his withdrawal, Alcaraz expressed his apologies and hopes to fans on Instagram: “I am very disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to compete at this year’s Rolex Shanghai Masters! I have been struggling with physical issues lately, and after discussing with my team, we decided that resting and recovering is the best option right now. I was really looking forward to playing again in front of the passionate Shanghai crowd and hope to recover soon and see the Chinese fans next year!”

The official Shanghai Rolex Masters social media also posted, expressing their anticipation for Alcaraz’s return, saying “Hopefully see you next year @carlosalcaraz.”

Following Alcaraz’s withdrawal, the tournament seeds have been adjusted: French player Corentin Moutet replaces him as the 33rd seed, entering the upper half of the draw. He will face either Beijing Open finalist Lenny Qin or Serbian player Kecmanovic in the second round. Meanwhile, Sinner becomes the highest-ranked player in the draw, positioned in the bottom half, with a first-round match against German player Altmaier or qualifier Tristan Schoolkate.

The impact of Alcaraz’s withdrawal on the competition at this year’s Shanghai Masters will be analyzed in a separate article.
