2025 China Open: Gauff comes from behind to defeat Bencic and advance to the quarterfinals, securing a spot in the year-end finals

The women's singles bottom half quarterfinals at the 2025 China Open are finalized, with defending champion Gauff defeating Bencic 4-6/7-6(4)/6-2 to advance to the quarters for a third straight year. She will meet German player Lis, who reversed the score against Kessler 4-6/6-1/6-2, making her first-ever WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearance.

With this victory, Gauff qualifies for this year’s WTA Finals. The American star commented after the match: "It was a tough battle. I had chances to close it out in the first set, but overall, I’m pleased with how I played. She was very aggressive, but I gave it my all... I’m happy to be back in Riyadh and thrilled to have qualified here."

Third seed Anisimova came back from 1-6/6-2/6-4 to defeat last year’s finalist Muchova, securing her 40th tour win this season and advancing to the China Open quarterfinals for the first time. This marks her fifth career WTA 1000 quarterfinal. Anisimova will face sixth seed Paolini, who beat Buzkova 6-2/7-5 to reach the China Open quarters for the first time and make her seventh WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearance.
