The world number one confirmed that Learner Tien is fully capable of progressing much further down the road.
Jannik Sinner added another title to his collection by defeating Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the China Open final on Wednesday evening. This marked the third consecutive time the Italian reached the Beijing final, reclaiming the championship after losing to Carlos Alcaraz last year.
Currently ranked second in the world, the player holds 21 ATP titles in his career, including three in the 2025 season, such as the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Previously, Sinner lost his last two finals (Cincinnati and US Open), both against Alcaraz. This time, his opponent was the 19-year-old American talent Learner Tien, who made his first ATP final appearance and received much praise from the veteran.
Tien enjoyed a brilliant week by consecutively defeating Francisco Cerúndolo, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Daniil Medvedev. His win over Musetti marked his fifth victory against Top 10 players in the 2025 season, ranking just behind Sinner and Alcaraz in this statistic.
During the trophy ceremony, Sinner did not forget to offer words of encouragement to the young opponent: “This place means a lot to me, but first, I want to congratulate Learner and your entire team. I know you have a fantastic support group behind you.
You have shown yourself to be a great talent throughout this season. Keep pushing forward, you are playing wonderful tennis. I wish you all the best for the remainder of the season and your career ahead. I hope we will share many moments like this in the future.”
As usual, Sinner also expressed gratitude to his own team: “Not everyone is here, but I hope they are watching from home. I’m lucky to be surrounded by very genuine people. Thank you for the support; we will keep improving and giving our best. Let’s see how the season ends, but I’m very happy to share this moment with everyone.”
After winning the Beijing title, Sinner will quickly move to Shanghai for the final Masters 1000 event of the year, where he will face Daniel Altmaier on Friday. His schedule also includes the Vienna Open, Paris Masters, and ATP Finals, promising a busy end-of-season period.
