Jannik Sinner was reportedly experiencing physical issues before the China Open 2025 final on October 1st.
Just one day after claiming the China Open 2025 title, Jannik Sinner arrived in Shanghai to prepare for defending his Shanghai Masters crown. The world No. 2 confirmed he is gradually recovering despite earlier stomach problems in Beijing.
Sinner caused concern among fans by revealing he suffered from diarrhea and dehydration a few days before the China Open final. However, the 23-year-old showed resilience by overcoming physical difficulties to defeat the young Vietnamese-American talent Learner Tien 6-2 on October 1st to win the championship.
"It's nothing serious. I had diarrhea for several days and was dehydrated. But I feel fine now. There was some stress which made things challenging.", Sinner shared a few days ago at the China Open.
Immediately following the final, Sinner flew straight to Shanghai. "I feel okay. Here it’s different — more humid and hotter. I have one day to rest before preparing for the opening match and will see how my condition and mindset are before the game.", the reigning Shanghai Masters champion stated.
The Italian player acknowledged the challenges of the first match at a Masters event: "The first round is never easy. It’s a big challenge, and I hope to perform well."
Sinner’s first opponent at the 2025 Shanghai Masters will be German player Daniel Altmaier. Having only one practice session to adapt to the court conditions, Sinner admitted this presents a significant challenge.
"The conditions in Shanghai are very different from Beijing, and I only had one practice session to get ready. It will be a tough and intense match, especially since you never know what to expect in the first round. But I’m happy to be back playing in front of the Shanghai fans.", he added.
Last year, Sinner arrived in Shanghai just days after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the China Open final but still managed to shine by defeating Novak Djokovic to claim the Shanghai Masters title. This time, fans hope the world No. 2 can replicate that impressive performance despite not being at full strength.
