Alcaraz has reached the final ten times, matching a record held by the greats!

The Shanghai Masters is progressing intensely, yet last week's finished event is still worth summarizing. Alcaraz overcame Fritz to secure his eighth championship in his tenth final this season. Individually, he has once more equaled the giants in one particular statistic.

Reviewing player performances this century, five male players have reached more than 10 finals in a single season. Aside from Alcaraz, the other four are none other than the Big Four: Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray.

Federer (7 times)

Federer leads this statistic with seven appearances. During his peak years from 2004 to 2007 as world number one, he dominated this list with flawless performances. After Nadal took over the top spot in 2008, Federer reclaimed the Wimbledon title in 2012 and surpassed Sampras to hold the record for most men’s Grand Slam singles titles. He also frequently reached double-digit finals.

In the back-to-back seasons of 2014-2015, although he reached many finals again, he failed to win any Grand Slam titles, notably losing two consecutive Wimbledon finals to Djokovic, which was regrettable.

Djokovic (5 times)

Nadal (5 times)

The two giants Djokovic and Nadal each have five such seasons. Djokovic achieved back-to-back 10+ final seasons in 2011-2012 and 2015-2016, demonstrating his remarkable endurance. Recently, despite once winning three Grand Slams in a single season, a reduced schedule prevented him from reaching double-digit finals in a season.

Nadal started strong in 2005, the year he first won a Grand Slam, capturing multiple titles including the French Open. During his peak years in 2008 and 2013, he also earned this distinction. Surprisingly, 2010, considered his strongest year, did not make the list.

Murray (1 time)

Murray is often mentioned as the fourth giant because of his outstanding peak season, where he consistently reached major finals and ultimately secured both the year-end and world number one rankings.

Alcaraz (1 time, 2025)

Alcaraz reached 10 finals this season: Rotterdam, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome, French Open, Queen’s Club, Wimbledon, Cincinnati, US Open, and Tokyo. He only lost in Barcelona (to Rune) and Wimbledon (to Sinner); his victories included top players like Sinner, Musetti, and Fritz, marking arguably his strongest season since turning pro.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qiye)
